NSW Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water (now Office of Environment and Heritage) Ecological Services – species distribution modelling of declining woodland birds

The National Parks and Wildlife Service arm of the department engaged Psp Ecological Consulting to undertake species distribution modelling of several threatened woodland birds occurring in the Dananbilla-Illunie Protected Area Network north-east of the town of Young, in the NSW South Western Slopes bioregion. The objective of the modelling exercise was to provide a tool that could be used to assist in the management of the modelled species and to strategically identify areas for inclusion in the Network. The methodology largely followed that described in a paper written by Steve Priday on habitat requirements of the threatened Hooded Robin (Melanodryas cucullata cucullata) http://www.publish.csiro.au/paper/MU09051.htm).

Key elements of the project included:

Kangaroo Grass (Themeda triandra)
